A Journey of Angelic Color

This morning, I was a guest on the Path to Purpose podcast with Dr. Katja Rusanen, a spiritual counselor who asked many thought-provoking questions about color. One of her many questions resonated: “Can you share a personal story where angelic colors helped you find guidance, healing, or clarity?”

As an Intuitive Artist and Angel Coach, my relationship with angelic colors has gradually unfolded—a series of synchronicities and breadcrumbs guiding me along a beautiful, sometimes challenging path. Whether I was learning from shaman Elka Boren during my days in New York or, more recently, from mentors Radleigh Valentine and Dougall Fraser, my journey with angels and color has rarely been marked by a single moment of awakening. Instead, it has been a mosaic of transformative experiences.

Yet, when Dr. Katja asked her question, one vivid memory sprang to mind: my visit to Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, Japan—the shrine of the Great Inari.

The Vermilion Path to Sacred Connection

Fushimi Inari Taisha is famous worldwide for its thousands of torii gates, which create a breathtaking path up the sacred mountain. Each gate is a testament to the hopes, dreams, and gratitude of those who walk this path. Pilgrims visit the shrine to make wishes and leave offerings, and when their wishes come true, they sponsor a new torii gate to be erected as an expression of their gratitude.

As I walked through the endless rows of gates, I was struck by their vibrant color, which seemed to pulse with life. At first glance, the gates appear red, but they are actually a rich orange, more specifically, vermillion. In the Shinto tradition, this hue symbolizes protection against evil spirits and vitality, connecting to the life force itself.

For me, orange resonates with the energy of Archangel Gabriel, the angel of communication and creativity. Gabriel assists artists, writers, and teachers in expressing their messages clearly and significantly. As I walked the path, I sensed a profound connection to Gabriel’s energy, the hopes and dreams of the names etched into every gate, and the vibrant, creative life force enveloping me. It was a moment of pure alignment—my ego melted away, and I felt deeply connected to my purpose.

My visit to Fushimi Inari inspired me to complete my tarot deck, Angel Party Tarot, and the next book proposal I plan to submit to Hay House. The energy of vermilion, the spirit of Inari, and the guidance of Archangel Gabriel propelled me forward, filling me with creativity, confidence, and clarity.

Finding Divine Energy in Everyday Colors

You don’t need to travel to a distant shrine to feel a deep connection to color or the divine. The energy of angels and their colors is always available, regardless of location. Color surrounds us daily, offering subtle yet powerful guidance if we remain receptive.

Consider this: Every time you select a color—whether it's the sofa in your living room, the sweater you wear to a party, or the candle you light during a peaceful moment—you’re making a choice that reflects something deeper within you. Colors communicate with us, often more profoundly than we realize.

For me, different colors carry distinct energies:

  • Copper, orange, or vermilion: These hues awaken my creativity and communication, helping me step out of my mind and into my heart.

  • Rose: This color promotes self-care and restoration, reminding me to nurture myself.

  • Emerald Green: A color of health and humor that inspires healing and light-heartedness.

You can connect with colors in countless ways. Pause, breathe, and be present with the colors surrounding you. Notice how they make you feel, and allow them to speak to your soul.

  • Wearing light pink (or envisioning it) can invite synchronicities.

  • Burning a light blue candle can bring balance and justice to a situation.

  • Meditating with crystals, surrounding yourself with vibrant flowers, or choosing a colorful dinner dish can profoundly shift your energy.

Everyday Signs and Colorful Messages

One of my favorite ways to connect with angelic colors is through “feather hunts.” I ask the angels to send me a sign, and the color of the feather I find always reveals something new and magical.

Colorful signs can be found everywhere: in the cars you pass on the road, billboards, or even whimsical lawn ornaments. For example, I always ask to see a pink flamingo lawn ornament when I need reassurance. Without fail, they appear right when I need them the most.

No matter your spirituality or beliefs, color can deepen your connection to the divine, the angels, or even your inner wisdom. It’s a universal language that transcends boundaries, inviting us all to explore its energy and meaning.
